If you are enrolling in a course, please retain the book: "Principles of Home Inspection: Systems & Standards" by Carson Donlap (Dearbourne Publishing) 2003 First addition. NOTE: there is a second or third addition that works as well. You can find this through google, amazon, ebay and a few other online places. Most book stores don't sell it. (average price should be under $80.00)

In addition to the home inspector exam, there is an additional OPEN BOOK exam on "Business Law and Project management" you can find the book here: Make sure it is the residential and NOT the commercial!

The exam is a 100 question multiple choice exam and you need 70% to pass. Exam fee is $75 if you do one portion at the exams. If you take both the fee is $90. It's best to take both at the same time. The home inspector's exam is 100 question exam and you need 70% to pass as well. There are certain items that are open book on this exam however the "Principles of Home Inspection: Systems & Standards" book is not used in the inspector's exam.
